Alumnus Kenneth Hodgkinson, who received an Ed.D. and M.Ed. in administration and supervision in 2001 and 2010, respectively, was named principal of the new Humble Independent School District middle school in Atascocita in November. The yet-to-be-named school is scheduled to open in fall 2018.
Jeff Collier, a doctoral student in the professional leadership – K-12 program, had an essay, “How Hurricane Harvey Altered My Perspective as a Teacher,” published in Education Week in November. He focused on how losing everything in the storm gave him a better perspective on working with his struggling students.
December 2017
Alumnus Freddie Titus, who received an Ed.D. in curriculum & instruction in 2010, was honored as Lamar University’s 2017 Julie & Ben Rogers Community Service Award recipient in December. He is an assistant professor of teacher education in the College of Education and Human Development at Lamar University in Beaumont.
Alum Amy Rice, who received an M.Ed. in higher education in 2016, accepted a position as an independent educational consultant for Estrela Consulting in December. She was chosen after a lengthy interview process and will offer a personalized approach to the college and school planning process for students across the United States and abroad.
Robert Wimpelberg, a professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and executive director of All Kids Alliance, was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Houston/Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Leadership Forum.
Alumnus Paul Donaldson, who received a Ph.D. in measurement, quantitative methods, and learning sciences in 2017, was appointed interim assistant provost for compliance, analytics and records at Northshore Technical Community College in December.
Amanda Long, a doctoral student in the counseling psychology program, received a dissertation award from the American Psychological Association Division 17 (Counseling Psychology) in December for her article “#NoFilter: Social Networking Sites and Body Dissatisfaction.” The article was published in the fall 2017 edition of APA’s WomanView, the official newsletter of the Section for the Advancement of Women.
