Is this program for me?
The Principal Certification Only Program provides a strong foundation of knowledge, skills, real-world experience, and innovative research to prepare students to be effective and transformational educational leaders committed to equity. Graduates fill a critical need in the community, serving in diverse positions in public and private educational institutions. The degree fulfills the Texas Principal as Instructional Leader Certificate requirements. The 18-hour hybrid delivery model program of study is typically completed in three consecutive semesters.
Through specialized coursework, preparing for the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) Principal as Instructional Leader (268) and TExES 368, Performance Assessment for School Leaders exams, and clinical–based internships, students will have the ability to:
- Establish and implement a shared vision and culture of high expectations for all stakeholders
- Work with stakeholders as key partners to support student learning
- Collaboratively develop and implement high-quality instruction
- Monitor and assess classroom instruction to promote teacher effectiveness and student achievement.
- Provide feedback, coaching, and professional development to staff through evaluation and supervision
- Promote high-quality teaching
- Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Focus on improving student outcomes through organizational collaboration, resiliency, and change management
- Collaboratively determine goals and implement strategies aligned with the school vision that support teacher effectiveness and positive student outcomes
- Provide administrative leadership through resource management
- Provide ethical leadership by advocating for children and ensuring student access to effective educators, programs, and services
What can I do with my certification?
The program prepares graduates for academic leadership positions in public and non-public school settings. Graduates of the M.Ed. in Administration and Supervision pursue the following K-12 school careers:
- School Principal
- Assistant School Principal
- School Administrator
- Team Leader
- Department Chair
