CLASS Honors & the Institute for Global Engagementpresent Antigone (Dir. Sophie Deraspe). This is a co-curricular event in collaboration with Human Situation. Professors Amanda Vredenburgh & Casey Dué Hackney will introduced and have a discussion after the film. This 2019 film is a French-Canadian adaptation of the ancient Greek play Antigone by Sophocles, transposing the story to a modern-day refugee family in Montreal. It won the Toronto International Film Festival Award for Best Canadian Film and five Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Motion Picture. This free screening will take place on October 23, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. in the Honors College Commons.

The Honors College welcomes applications from students entering the University of Houston as freshmen, students enrolled at the University for one or several semesters and students transferring from other colleges and universities.
There's no substitute for seeing the University of Houston for yourself. We encourage prospective students and their families to meet faculty and staff and see the campus. Prospective students have several opportunities to visit the Honors College — the Cougar Preview, one of our High School Senior Open Houses or an Individual Visit!
The Honors College is a community where motivated students learn and grow together. We provide the personal support and advantages of a small liberal arts college together with the rich resources and diversity of a large metropolitan university.

Teachers can attend Common Ground at no cost, and their books are underwritten by past grants from the McGovern Foundation. For their participation in the institute, educators will earn 30 Texas Education Agency-approved Continuing Professional Education hours.
The CASE Debates program is also creating a pipeline of alumni who return to the debate camp each summer, just like Appiah. These alumni, once former participants, now use their debate skills in the classroom as coaches.
At the 69th Annual Alumni Awards Gala, Kaitlyn Palividas (’17) won the Billie Schneider Outstanding Volunteer Award. The award was recognition of Palividas’ tireless work in the University of Houston alumni community.
Recently, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program awarded scholarships to 14 University of Houston students and alumni, who will soon travel worldwide to impart knowledge gained at their alma mater while supporting global populations.
More than 400 family, friends, faculty and staff gathered in the Conrad N. Hilton Ballroom of the Hilton University of Houston to celebrate Honors College graduates during the Honors College Medallion Ceremony on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
