Human Situation Registration
The Human Situation is a 10-hour sequence that is split between the fall and spring semesters. In the fall, students will enroll in six hours of coursework: three hours for lecture and three hours for discussion. In the spring, students will enroll in four hours and attend two hours of lecture and two hours of discussion per week.
Please read the information provided below, and use the Human Situation Enrollment Information form to choose your Human Situation discussion and lecture sections.
What do you get credit for?
- HON 2301, the fall discussion course, fulfills the required core Language, Philosophy, and Culture credit.
- ENGL 1370, the fall lecture course, fulfills the second half of the required core UH Core Curriculum Communications credit (Course Number ENGL 1302).
- HON 2101, the spring discussion course, counts as one hour of elective credit.
- ENGL 2361, the spring lecture course, fulfills the first half of the required UH Core Curriculum Communications credit (Course Number ENGL 1301).
What if you already have credit for English?
Fall
If you made a 4 or higher on the AP Language and Composition test (normally taken junior year) or you have Dual Credit for ENGL 1302, then you should enroll in ENGL 2360 instead of ENGL 1370 in the fall semester. ENGL 2360 gives students three hours of elective credit rather than repeat credit for core Communications.
Spring
If you scored a 3 or higher on the AP Language and Composition test (normally taken junior year) or you have Dual Credit for ENGL 1301, then you should enroll in HON 2341 instead of ENGL 2361 in the spring semester. HON 2341 gives students credit for the required UH Core Curriculum Writing in the Disciplines course.
Please note that enrollment in the alternate lecture does not change the meeting time, place or curriculum but simply redistributes the credit on the student’s transcript to avoid conflicts.
For both ENGL 1370 and 2360, section 01 corresponds to the Team Alpha HON 2301 sections 01-20 and section 02 corresponds to the Team Omega HON 2301 sections 20-38.
