    Spring and Fall

    The A. I. Lack Master Series annually presents distinguished classical performers and recognized pedagogues in a series of free master classes and recitals, providing a wider educational experience for its students and for the Houston community at large. The endowment that supports the series was established in memory of Abram I. Lack in 1989.

    Texas Music Festival

    Summer (June)

    The Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival ® was founded in 1990 to provide young professional musicians with a challenging musical environment in which to develop skills in orchestral, chamber music, and solo performance. The intensive three-week orchestral fellowship program on the University of Houston campus is guided by renowned guest conductors, members of Houston’s orchestras, faculty from the Moores and Shepherd schools of music, and other distinguished artists.

    Jazz Festival

    Spring

    The Moores School of Music Jazz Festival provides middle, junior high, and high school bands with a superb two day experience. Each participating band performs for Houston jazz artist judges, followed by a judge's clinic. Each year the guest artist provides several clinics open to the public, and the festival concludes with performances by the guest artist, local jazz artists, and the Moores School Jazz Orchestra.

    CelloFest Houston

    Spring - Biannual

    Presented by the Moores School of Music, CelloFest Houston brings together master cellists and young cellists from the Greater Houston area to collaborate in concerts that celebrate the cello, its music, and the musicians.

    A Workshop for Choral Conductors: Revisiting Gesture. Choral conductors, join us for a day of camaraderie and revisit your gesture with the renowned faculty of The University of Houston, Moores School of Music.

    TMF Orchestral Institute

    Summer (June)

    The Texas Music Festival Orchestral Institute provides superior training for gifted young musicians (18-30) who are completing university/conservatory studies and entering the professional world. Daily activities include orchestra rehearsals, chamber music rehearsals and coaching, masterclasses, and individual lessons.

    TMF Opera Institute

    Summer (June)

    The TMF Opera Institute offers classes acting and dramatic interpretation, language and diction, solo and ensemble coaching, stage movement, dance, and body awareness. Singers will enjoy coachings, master classes, lectures and lessons, culminating in a final performance of staged opera and operetta scenes.

    TMF College Piano Institute

    Summer (June)

    The TMF College Piano Institute is an intensive, two-week program focusing on the art of piano performance with University of Houston piano faculty Timothy Hester, Tali Morgulis, and Andrew Staupe. Studies will also integrate optional instrumental sonatas and four-hand repertoire studies, period instrument and organ studies.

    Pre-College Piano Institute

    Summer (June)

    The TMF Pre-College Piano Institute for Students and Teachers is an intensive one-week summer institute where pre-college students grow as artists, plus a weekend symposium for teachers to attend seminars and interact with expert guidance on novel approaches piano pedagogy from nationally-known teachers, composers, and experts in piano pedagogy.

    The TMF Jazz Institutes are intensive one-week summer institutes for middle and high school students, led by University of Houston faculty and Houston's top jazz musicians.

    Texas Clarinet Symposium

    May 2024

    The inaugural Texas Clarinet Symposium brings together master clarinettists and young clarinettists from around the world to celebrate the clarinet. Join us for orchestral audition workshops, concerts, masterclasses, and educational presentations.
  • Cougar Band Camp

    Summer (June-July)

    Cougar Band Camp is an exciting summer camp geared toward junior high band students. We also offer the High School Wind Ensemble Institute, an elite auditioned ensemble. 

    Both camps are held at the Moores School of Music on the campus of the University of Houston.

    High school and university student string players, join us for a one-week inspiring and intensive chamber music mentorship program with the renowned faculty of The University of Houston, Moores School of Music. 

  • MEXICA Mariachi Festival

    Summer (July-August)

    Middle and high school students can look forward to their favorite MEXICA Mariachi Festival summer camp, complete with rehearsals and sectionals with master mariachi teachers, great music, ballet folkloriko, and fun extracurricular activities unique to the University of Houston and Moores School of Music.

  • Fundamentals of Mariachi for Educators

    Jose Longoria, UH Mariachi professor, will help music teachers from all disciplines learn to play and teach the mariachi strummed instruments and beginning violinProf. Longoria will also provide helpful resources and guidance for organizing a mariachi program within a school. No previous experience in mariachi required.

  • Texas Low Brass Academy

    Summer (July)

    The Texas Low Brass Academy invites all high school and middle school students (trombone, euphonium & tuba) for 4 full days of instrument-specific experiences. Join us to learn from the Moores School of Music low brass faculty and other esteemed educators, perform in chamber groups, improve your playing skills while having fun, and more!

    The road to All-Region Band and the Texas All-State Band is a long one! Let us help you with your journey. Please join us for the annual All-State Band Masterclass at the University of Houston, Moores School of Music!
  • All-State Strings Festival

    Fall

    The All-State Strings Festival invites violin, viola, cello, bass, and harp students to participate in audition and preparation workshops focused on the Texas All-Region and All-State etudes and excerpts, taught by the distinguished string faculty at the Moores School of Music. 
  • All-State Jazz Workshop

    Fall

    Please join us for a TMEA All-Region and All-State audition workshop with some of Houston's best jazz instrumentalists and teachers at the UH Moores School of Music.   
  • Fall Cougar Choral Festival

    Fall

    At the Fall Cougar Choral Festival, high school students will perform with UH faculty and students, while teachers benefit from professional development sessions. The event concludes with a free concert at the Moores Opera House.
  • Prelude to College

    Fall

    Prelude to College is open to high school junior and senior singers who are interested in preparing for college music school auditions. Attendees will have the chance to rehearse with the Moores School Concert Chorale, tour the Moores Opera House and participate in a faculty studio class, The Audition Package session and a vocal masterclass.

    High School Choral Invitational

    Spring

    Each year the Moores School of Music Choral Department hosts The High School Choral Invitational. This free concert showcases the greater Houston area's most exemplary high school choirs, as well as the UH Concert Chorale and a cappella groups.

    Rachmaninoff Festival

    Fall 2023

    The Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts and Moores School of Music present the Rachmaninoff Festival. A 150 Celebration of the Birth of Sergei Rachmaninoff, this multi-concert festival features performances of the iconic Russian composer's works.
