Social Economy and Enterprise Academy Internship

Description

Students participating in this program enroll in an intensive summer class taught by Dr. German Cubas (CLASS), Dr. Pablo Pinto (Hobby School of Public Affairs), and Dr. Piruz Saboury (CLASS). This program connects undergraduate students with nonprofit organizations from the Houston area in order to help them meet their social goals. Students will apply and develop skills in high demand in the job market through social good.

Enrolled students will work in teams under the direct supervision of faculty and will work closely with the leadership of a nonprofit to develop a social enterprise idea, conduct quantitative research and/or create a venture plan.

Academics

Undergraduate and Master's students will be able to earn 3 credits of applicable undergraduate or graduate elective/internship hours. Additionally, students that qualify will be eligible for up to 3 points towards "Honors in Co-Curricular Engagement".

The course is open to all majors and may be of particular interest to students majoring in Business, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Public Policy, and Political Science. To be prepared, students are encouraged to take advanced data analysis courses such as Econometrics or Regression Analysis.

Dates

The program will be held in Houston during the Summer 2025 semester. The program starts on June 2nd, and student teams must bring their projects to a close by July 3rd. Final reports are due by August 8th, and student teams must present their work in the final event on August 14th.

Application

To be considered for admission, interested students must fill out this application by March 24th, 2025. There will be a competitive selection process.
