Recently, two Student Housing and Residential Life (SHRL) staff members were selected to attend the Southwest Association of College and University Housing Officers (SWACUHO-U) virtual engagement seminar.
Out of 24 total applicants, Heli Patel, Emergency & Risk Management Program Manager, and Brock Taylor, Residential Life Coordinator, were given the opportunity to attend the virtual seminar.
SWACUHO-U provides a selective mentor/cohort-based professional development experience for professionals with two years or less full-time experience. Participants engage with peers and experienced successful colleagues to gain skills and competencies needed to be successful as they are grown in the profession. Each year the SWACUHO Professional Development Committee selects focus topics, connected with the ACUHOI Competencies, intended to support new professional success.
“SWACUHO-U was an excellent opportunity to meet new higher education professionals across the Southwest and learn from experienced coaches. We expanded on our knowledge of strategic planning, crisis management, student behavior, and leadership. I am thankful for the friends I have gained. There was a tremendous amount of attention to detail, professionalism, and planning behind the program. I am grateful to the SWACUHO Executive Board, Professional Development Committee, and of course, our amazing coaches for volunteering their time,” Heli Patel stated.
SWAUCHO-U was what I needed. Being new to the Southwest region, this experience allowed me to meet other higher education professionals while also gaining new friendships. Having the opportunity to build networks with fellow cohorts, while learning from our incredible coaches is what this opportunity afforded me. Special thanks to all who made this come to fruition," Brock Taylor added.
Please join SHRL in congratulating Brock and Heli on this accomplishment.
