The Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts (KGMCA) awards Graduate Tuition Fellowships (GTF) to encourage excellence and success in students in its terminal degree programs. The College awards GTF to students identified by the various departments as eligible and approved for support under this program.

GTF covers the cost of in-state tuition and mandatory fees¹ (up to 9 credit hours for each fall and spring semester for School of Art Master of Fine Arts (MFA) students, and up to 12 credit hours for each fall and spring semester for School of Theatre Master of Fine Arts (MFA) students and Moores School of Music Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) students). Details on the general eligibility standards of the GTF are as follows:

1. To be eligible to be considered for funding, a student must be enrolled full-time in a KGMCA MFA or DMA program.
2. Continuing students must demonstrate satisfactory progress in the degree program as defined by the enrolling college or department.
3. Continuing students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.
4. DMA and MFA students may hold tuition fellowships for no more than three academic years (6 semesters).
5. The GTF recipient is responsible for payment of tuition for any additional enrolled credit hours above those covered by the GTF per semester.
6. The student is responsible for all tuition and fees as they are due, regardless of the expectation or disbursement of a GTF.
7. Students holding the GTF must agree not to be employed (on or off campus) for more than 20 hours a week (50% FTE). Violation of this provision will result in withdrawal of the funding during the semester in which the violation occurs.
8. Recipients may accept other scholarships and grants in conjunction with GTF.
9. Students whose tuition is paid through other financial aid sources (e.g. Hazelwood, third party contracts) are not eligible to receive the GTF.
10. Students who fail to meet all the criteria for eligibility throughout the entire semester may have their fellowship revoked retroactively.

¹ All other costs and fees, such as university mandated course fees, departmental major fees within KGMCA, academic fees, designated tuition, housing, parking, and the international student health plan are not included in the GTF funding and remain the obligation of the student.

General eligibility standards and additional details of the GTF are as follows:

1. To be eligible for the GTF, a student must be enrolled full-time in a KGMCA MFA or DMA program.
2. Continuing students must demonstrate satisfactory progress in the degree program as defined by the enrolling college or department.
3. Continuing students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.
4. Each academic unit of KGMCA may have additional criteria for eligibility and retention of the GTF. GTF candidates and recipients should review the scholarship and GTF policies of their respective school.

Additional details regarding the GTF:

1. DMA and MFA students may hold GTFs for no more than 3 academic years (6 semesters).
2. The GTF covers tuition for no more than 12 credit hours per semester for School of Theatre and Dance MFA and Moores School of Music DMA students, and 9 credit hours per semester for School of Art MFA students. Credit-hour coverage unused in one semester will not transfer to subsequent semesters.
3. The GTF recipient is responsible for payment of tuition and fees for any additional enrolled credit hours exceeding those covered by the GTF per semester.
4. The GTF recipient is responsible for payment of all tuition and fees as they are due, regardless of the expectation or disbursement of a GTF.
5. Graduate students employed in an on-campus assistantship position while holding the GTF may not engage in on-campus employment for more than twenty (20) hours per week (50% of Full-Time Equivalent [FTE]). Any violation of this provision without prior approval by the Dean of the Graduate School will result in withdrawal of the funding during the term in which the violation occurs by the student. Requests for an exception to this provision will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. These exceptions must be requested through an Overload Request Form. EXCEPTION: Approval is not required to work additional hours when class is not officially in session and/or during term breaks and holidays.
6. GTF recipients may accept other scholarships and grants in conjunction with the GTF.
7. If a GTF recipient is also eligible for and elects to use Hazelwood Act benefits, the amount of the GTF award will be adjusted to cover the amount of tuition and mandatory fees the Hazelwood benefit does not cover.
8. Students who fail to meet all the criteria for eligibility throughout the entire semester may have their fellowship revoked retroactively.
