Kenya Smith Bey, a certified medical assistant in primary care at the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) Student Health Center, has been awarded the Golden Paw Employee of the Month of July 2024. This recognition highlights her exceptional dedication and outstanding contributions to the health and well-being of the division.
Kenya’s role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including patient intake, assisting with medical procedures, conducting EKGs, and administering vaccinations. But what really sets her apart are her warm disposition and her steadfast dedication to patient care. Nominated by Kathy Waller, a registered nurse at the center, Kenya has consistently gone above and beyond in ensuring that every student and patient feels valued and supported.
Beyond her daily responsibilities, Kenya actively participates in numerous initiatives. She has volunteered for projects such as the College of Medicine’s PPD administration and the Target BP study. Her involvement in activities for Sexually Transmitted Infection Awareness Week further underscores her dedication to public health education.
Kenya also plays a vital role in fostering teamwork among her colleagues. She is a resource for other medical assistants and contributes to the Celebration and Recognition Committee, which organizes monthly staff events to boost workplace happiness. Her readiness to cover shifts in multiple clinics and her diligent preparation of the clinic for Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) demonstrates her commitment to excellence.
