The Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life (CFSL) at the University of Houston continues its tradition of nurturing leadership within the fraternity and sorority community through the annual Future Greek Leaders Academy (FGLA). This year's event took place on Friday, March 1st, at the Student Center North, bringing together 29 emerging leaders representing all five governing councils.
FGLA serves as a platform for young fraternity and sorority members to develop a deeper understanding of the rituals, purpose, and values of their respective chapters and the broader fraternity/sorority community. Participants engage in discussions and activities aimed at fostering values-based leadership, with a focus on making a positive impact within both the fraternity and sorority communities and the University of Houston as a whole. “Future Greek Leaders Academy is an interactive educational leadership opportunity for new chapter members. The students can connect and glean knowledge from colleagues and partners within the Division who serve as group facilitators. It warms my heart to be able to see our new members from all the councils come together to learn and grow in their sorority & fraternity experience. I cannot wait to see all the amazing initiatives they will develop and lead during their fraternal journey,” said Cassandra Joseph, director of the center for fraternity and sorority life.
Kassandra Vega, Phi Mu, said, “I really enjoyed my experience… I made many new friends from different organizations that I would’ve never met before! It was a great experience, especially for new members. It gives them a chance to learn about leadership as a new member. Every new member in CFSL should definitely attend because it is fun and you learn so many new things!”
Through collaborative sessions and shared experiences, attendees gained valuable insights and takeaway ideas for effecting positive change in their respective chapters and the university community at large. FGLA reaffirms CFSL's commitment to cultivating a culture of leadership and service among future fraternity and sorority leaders.
