The Cultural Taste of Houston (CTOH) is a food festival that showcases the diversity of Houston’s local restaurants and businesses. It promotes intercultural awareness by exposing the University of Houston (UH) community to various cultural activities, foods, and entertainment. CTOH was first started in 2017 by the Council for Cultural Activities (CCA), a university-sponsored organization that promotes cultural awareness at UH.
Director of CCA Sarah Khan shared, “Cultural Taste is such a great event for students, faculty, staff, and the greater Houston community to come together in an immersion of cultural food, performances, vendors, and giveaways! This was my fourth Cultural Taste event, and I’ve only seen it get bigger and better. There are more choices, more variety, and so much love and appreciation for and by the students!”
Over 1,200 students attended this year’s event and had the opportunity to taste samples from 10 local restaurants displaying a wide variety of cultural foods. Attendees could also shop with 11 local vendors, including current and former students, selling cultural apparel, stickers, pins, jewelry, and more.
Katy Kaesebier, director for the Center for Student Involvement said, “It’s such a pleasure to work with students who are so passionate about this event. They work extremely hard to bring a unique and diverse experience to the UH community, and it’s very rewarding to see their efforts pay off.”
Mark your calendar for the next Cultural Taste of Houston event on August 27, 2024! The fall version of this event highlights a variety of cultural food trucks and will include a vendor fair and cultural performance. We can’t wait to see you there!
