Gabrielle was nominated by her supervisor Laura Zavala-Membreno for her success in taking the SMSS program at the WGRC to new heights, from improving systems to establishing new community partners. She has been at the University of Houston (UH) for a little over a year, yet in her time here so far, she has made an exceptional addition to the WGRC team.
To improve the SMSS program, Gabrielle improved the WGRC’s case management system and moved them onto Maxient, a software that has allowed the team to have secure file storage as well as enhanced data tracking for the WGRC’s term and annual reports.
Additionally, Gabrielle went above and beyond in her normal job responsibilities by venturing into the programming space and assisting the WGRC in establishing various new community partnerships with Avenue 360, The Montrose Center, and Forge for Families. These new partnerships have made it possible for the WGRC to maintain safe sex products in their office and create critical touch points in the community to serve individuals beyond UH. The relationship that Gabrielle had established with Forge for Families allowed the WGRC to donate over 300 menstrual products to their center for school-aged students in need of pads and tampons.
During the WGRC’s recent transition into a new office space, Gabrielle was essential in helping think of new ideas on how to maximize the new space, such as the idea to install a free clothing closet. These are the kinds of new, innovative ideas that Gabrielle brings to the table every day, planning how the WGRC can continually better serve the community in an inclusive and thoughtful manner.
Congratulations again to Gabrielle on being awarded the Division of Student Affairs October 2023 Golden Paw Employee of the Month.
