Ja’Nelle King was recognized with the Greer Dawson Wilson Scholarship at this year’s Association of College Unions International (ACUI) annual conference in Chicago, Illinois. King currently serves as the director for the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life and she previously worked in the Center for Student Involvement as the assistant director for registered student organizations—and activities coordinator previous to that. In these roles, according to one nominator, King never settled for status quo and always pushed to make improvements based on assessment data, best practices, and student needs. King intends to use the scholarship fund to attend the Women’s Leadership Institute with hopes of making connection with other women looking to continue to excel in their respective areas.
Keith T. Kowalka, assistant vice president, said “This scholarship is to support professionals in advancing campus community; and Ja’Nelle King is the epitome of this award. Ja’Nelle is an amazing leader for the Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life, and this scholarship will benefit both Ja’Nelle as well as the educational benefits she will be able to share with her team.”
The Greer Dawson Wilson Scholarship honors the legacy of Greer Dawson Wilson by supporting a professional of color or woman to take part in an ACUI event or leadership development activity. This award enriches the ACUI community by developing the leadership potential of those committed to advancing campus community.
“I am thrilled Ja’Nelle was recognized with the Greer Dawson Wilson Scholarship. Greer emulated excellence, care for others, lifting a diversity of voices, and celebrating diversity. Ja’Nelle is all these things and a rising star in the student affairs profession,” stated Dr. Daniel Maxwell, Interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Services.
Please join us in recognizing King on her achievements.
